I only want to save, when I choose to, not every time I open a PDF link or a PDF or DOC attachment.Starting with Firefox version 49, Firefox requires Mac OS X 10.9 (Mavericks) or higher. There does not seem to be an option to disable save. When you change the download location in Safari, it will just save the file in a different location. The difference, is that both Mac programs force saves the files to the specified download location. Thunderbird Windows opens PDF, DOC, etc attachments in their respective applications, so does TBird Mac.
They both behave very differently.įirefox Windows opens PDF links in the browser window, FF Mac opens them in Acrobat Reader. My apologies for what you perceived to be a cross posting. I cannot imagine, that the only way to deal with files like this, is a forced download EVERY TIME. The setting changes are available from the menu bars from within FF and TBird for Windows, but do not even exist in the Mac versions. That makes no sense, because I cannot find an area anywhere, be it OSX, Safari, Firefox, or Thunderbird, where I can change this setting. It is not up to Thunderbird or Firefox, but Apple. When I open an attachment, whether it is a PDF file or a DOC file, they open. Is this a function of OSX? Is this a function of Firefox for the Mac? Can this be turned off? Are there plugins, that will disable this annoying behavior? I have not been able to find a setting in Firefox to turn this function off.īTW, the same thing happens in Thunderbird. If I want to save the file, I can do that, but I am not forced to do that. There the files just open, and when I close Acrobat Reader, or hit the back button, my desktop stays clean. This is very annoying, because I often end up with dozens of files on my desktop, that I do not want, and then have to delete.įirefox does not behave like this on my Windows computers.
When I close the file, it is still on the desktop. Every time I click on a link in Firefox, that is a PDF file, the file does not just open in Adobe Acrobat Reader, it also gets downloaded to my desktop on my Mac running OSX.
